SHA'ABAAN

The Holy Prophet said:  “Sha'abaan is my month”.

Imam Ali bin Husayn Al Zanul Aabideen (A.S.) told his companions:

“The Holy Prophet (S.A.) used to observe fast during the whole month of Sha'abaan. Therefore whoso, in love of the Holy Prophet (S.A.), wishes to seen nearness to Allah and receive bounties, favors and rewards in this world and in the Hereafter, must connect Sha'abaan with RAMazaan (in the matter of fasting and special prayers).

EVERYDAY AA’-MAAL

[ To be carried out on every day of the month of Sha'abaan].

(1) Observe fast.

(2) Give Alms in the name of Allah.

(Giving alms in the month of Sha'abaan has been strongly recommended).

(3) Recite 70 times:

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَ أَسْأَلُهُ التَّوْبَةَ

(i) I seek forgiveness of Allah, and, repentant, beseech Him.

ASTAGFIRULLAAHA WA AS-ALUHUT TAWBAH

(ii) I seek forgiveness of Allah who is “There is no God save He”, the Beneficent, the Merciful; the Everliving, the Eternal, and I turn repentant to Him

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِيمُ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

ASTAGHFIRULLAAHALLAD’EE LAA ILAAHA HUWAR RAH’EEMUL RAHMANO H’AYYUL QAYYOOMU WA ATOOBU ILAYHI

Please note that according to many reliable traditions recitation of the above noted “Estighfars”” should be preferred to other dua’s, in this month

)4) Recite the following 1000 times, not daily, but throughout the month; whenever the count reaches 1000, at any time within the month, the a’amal is completed:

لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ وَ لا نَعْبُدُ إِلا إِيَّاهُ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ وَ لَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ

LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAAHU WA LAA NAA’-BUDU ILLAA IYYAAHU MUKHLIS’EENA LAHUD DEEN WA LAW KARIHAL MUSHRIKOON

There is no god save Allah. We do not worship save “He” alone, making religion pure for Him (only), however much the disbelievers be averse.

(5) On every Thursday pray 2 Rak-a’t Namaaz.

In every Raka’t, after the recitation of Sura-e Al Faatiha, recite Soorah Al Ikhlaas 100 times.

After the Salaam recite Salawaat 100 times

[Please note the fasting on Thursdays in this month is highly rewarding, if you are not fit to observe fast daily as stated above].

(6)   Recite as many Salawaat in this month as you can.

(7)   Recite the following Salawaat taught by Imam Ali bin Husain Al-Zaynul Aabideen (A.S.):

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ آلِ مُحَمَّد شَجَرَةِ النُّبُوَّةِ وَ مَوْضِعِ الرِّسَالَةِ وَ مُخْتَلَفِ الْمَلائِكَةِ وَ مَعْدِنِ الْعِلْمِ وَ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ الْوَحْيِ اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ آلِ مُحَمَّد الْفُلْكِ الْجَارِيَةِ فِي اللُّجَجِ الْغَامِرَةِ يَأْمَنُ مَنْ رَكِبَهَا وَ يَغْرَقُ مَنْ تَرَكَهَا الْمُتَقَدِّمُ لَهُمْ مَارِقٌ وَ الْمُتَأَخِّرُ عَنْهُمْ زَاهِقٌ وَ اللازِمُ لَهُمْ لاحِقٌ اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ آلِ مُحَمَّد الْكَهْفِ الْحَصِينِ وَ غِيَاثِ الْمُضْطَرِّ الْمُسْتَكِينِ وَ مَلْجَإِ الْهَارِبِينَ وَ عِصْمَةِ الْمُعْتَصِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ آلِ مُحَمَّد صَلاةً كَثِيرَةً تَكُونُ لَهُمْ رِضًى وَ لِحَقِّ مُحَمَّد وَ آلِ مُحَمَّد أَدَاءً وَ قَضَاءً بِحَوْل مِنْكَ وَ قُوَّة يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ آلِ مُحَمَّد الطَّيِّبِينَ الْأَبْرَارِ الْأَخْيَارِ الَّذِينَ أَوْجَبْتَ حُقُوقَهُمْ وَ فَرَضْتَ طَاعَتَهُمْ وَ وِلايَتَهُمْ اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ آلِ مُحَمَّد وَ اعْمُرْ قَلْبِي بِطَاعَتِكَ وَ لا تُخْزِنِي بِمَعْصِيَتِكَ وَ ارْزُقْنِي مُوَاسَاةَ مَنْ قَتَّرْتَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ بِمَا وَسَّعْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ وَ نَشَرْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ عَدْلِكَ وَ أَحْيَيْتَنِي تَحْتَ ظِلِّكَ وَ هَذَا شَهْرُ نَبِيِّكَ سَيِّدِ رُسُلِكَ شَعْبَانُ الَّذِي حَفَفْتَهُ مِنْكَ بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَ الرِّضْوَانِ الَّذِي كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ وَ [سَلَّمَ ] يَدْأَبُ فِي صِيَامِهِ وَ قِيَامِهِ فِي لَيَالِيهِ وَ أَيَّامِهِ بُخُوعا لَكَ فِي إِكْرَامِهِ وَ إِعْظَامِهِ إِلَى مَحَلِّ حِمَامِهِ اللَّهُمَّ فَأَعِنَّا عَلَى الاسْتِنَانِ بِسُنَّتِهِ فِيهِ وَ نَيْلِ الشَّفَاعَةِ لَدَيْهِ اللَّهُمَّ وَ اجْعَلْهُ لِي شَفِيعا مُشَفَّعا وَ طَرِيقا إِلَيْكَ مَهْيَعا وَ اجْعَلْنِي لَهُ مُتَّبِعا حَتَّى أَلْقَاكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَنِّي رَاضِيا وَ عَنْ ذُنُوبِي غَاضِيا قَدْ أَوْجَبْتَ لِي مِنْكَ الرَّحْمَةَ وَ الرِّضْوَانَ وَ أَنْزَلْتَنِي دَارَ الْقَرَارِ وَ مَحَلَّ الْأَخْيَارِ.

(8) It is advisable to recite the following Dua  which has been narrated by Ibn Khalawaih. As it has been reported by him the Commander of  the Faithful, Ali and his infallible sons (Peace Be Upon Them) recited it during the month of Sha’abaan.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ آلِ مُحَمَّد وَ اسْمَعْ دُعَائِي إِذَا دَعَوْتُكَ وَ اسْمَعْ نِدَائِي إِذَا نَادَيْتُكَ وَ أَقْبِلْ عَلَيَّ إِذَا نَاجَيْتُكَ فَقَدْ هَرَبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَ وَقَفْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ مُسْتَكِينا لَكَ مُتَضَرِّعا إِلَيْكَ رَاجِيا لِمَا لَدَيْكَ ثَوَابِي وَ تَعْلَمُ مَا فِي نَفْسِي وَ تَخْبُرُ حَاجَتِي وَ تَعْرِفُ ضَمِيرِي. وَ لا يَخْفَى عَلَيْكَ أَمْرُ مُنْقَلَبِي وَ مَثْوَايَ وَ مَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُبْدِئَ بِهِ مِنْ مَنْطِقِي وَ أَتَفَوَّهَ بِهِ مِنْ طَلِبَتِي وَ أَرْجُوهُ لِعَاقِبَتِي وَ قَدْ جَرَتْ مَقَادِيرُكَ عَلَيَّ يَا سَيِّدِي فِيمَا يَكُونُ مِنِّي إِلَى آخِرِ عُمْرِي مِنْ سَرِيرَتِي وَ عَلانِيَتِي وَ بِيَدِكَ لا بِيَدِ غَيْرِكَ زِيَادَتِي وَ نَقْصِي وَ نَفْعِي وَ ضَرِّي إِلَهِي إِنْ حَرَمْتَنِي فَمَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَرْزُقُنِي وَ إِنْ خَذَلْتَنِي فَمَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَنْصُرُنِي إِلَهِي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَضَبِكَ وَ حُلُولِ سَخَطِكَ إِلَهِي إِنْ كُنْتُ غَيْرَ مُسْتَأْهِل لِرَحْمَتِكَ فَأَنْتَ أَهْلٌ أَنْ تَجُودَ عَلَيَّ بِفَضْلِ سَعَتِكَ إِلَهِي كَأَنِّي بِنَفْسِي وَاقِفَةٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ وَ قَدْ أَظَلَّهَا حُسْنُ تَوَكُّلِي عَلَيْكَ فَقُلْتَ [فَفَعَلْتَ] مَا أَنْتَ أَهْلُهُ وَ تَغَمَّدْتَنِي بِعَفْوِكَ إِلَهِي إِنْ عَفَوْتَ فَمَنْ أَوْلَى مِنْكَ بِذَلِكَ وَ إِنْ كَانَ قَدْ دَنَا أَجَلِي وَ لَمْ يُدْنِنِي [يَدْنُ] مِنْكَ عَمَلِي فَقَدْ جَعَلْتُ الْإِقْرَارَ بِالذَّنْبِ إِلَيْكَ وَسِيلَتِي إِلَهِي قَدْ جُرْتُ عَلَى نَفْسِي فِي النَّظَرِ لَهَا فَلَهَا الْوَيْلُ إِنْ لَمْ تَغْفِرْ لَهَا إِلَهِي لَمْ يَزَلْ بِرُّكَ عَلَيَّ أَيَّامَ حَيَاتِي فَلا تَقْطَعْ بِرَّكَ عَنِّي فِي مَمَاتِي إِلَهِي كَيْفَ آيَسُ مِنْ حُسْنِ نَظَرِكَ لِي بَعْدَ مَمَاتِي وَ أَنْتَ لَمْ تُوَلِّنِي [تُولِنِي] إِلا الْجَمِيلَ فِي حَيَاتِي إِلَهِي تَوَلَّ مِنْ أَمْرِي مَا أَنْتَ أَهْلُهُ وَ عُدْ عَلَيَّ بِفَضْلِكَ عَلَى مُذْنِب قَدْ غَمَرَهُ جَهْلُهُ إِلَهِي قَدْ سَتَرْتَ عَلَيَّ ذُنُوبا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ أَنَا أَحْوَجُ إِلَى سَتْرِهَا عَلَيَّ مِنْكَ فِي الْأُخْرَى [إِلَهِي قَدْ أَحْسَنْتَ إِلَيَّ] إِذْ لَمْ تُظْهِرْهَا لِأَحَد مِنْ عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ فَلا تَفْضَحْنِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رُءُوسِ الْأَشْهَادِ إِلَهِي جُودُكَ بَسَطَ أَمَلِي وَ عَفْوُكَ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ عَمَلِي إِلَهِي فَسُرَّنِي بِلِقَائِكَ يَوْمَ تَقْضِي فِيهِ بَيْنَ عِبَادِكَ إِلَهِي اعْتِذَارِي إِلَيْكَ اعْتِذَارُ مَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَغْنِ عَنْ قَبُولِ عُذْرِهِ فَاقْبَلْ عُذْرِي يَا أَكْرَمَ مَنِ اعْتَذَرَ إِلَيْهِ الْمُسِيئُونَ إِلَهِي لا تَرُدَّ حَاجَتِي وَ لا تُخَيِّبْ طَمَعِي وَ لا تَقْطَعْ مِنْكَ رَجَائِي وَ أَمَلِي إِلَهِي لَوْ أَرَدْتَ هَوَانِي لَمْ تَهْدِنِي وَ لَوْ أَرَدْتَ فَضِيحَتِي لَمْ تُعَافِنِي إِلَهِي مَا أَظُنُّكَ تَرُدُّنِي فِي حَاجَة قَدْ أَفْنَيْتُ عُمُرِي فِي طَلَبِهَا مِنْكَ إِلَهِي فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَبَدا أَبَدا دَائِما سَرْمَدا يَزِيدُ وَ لا يَبِيدُ كَمَا تُحِبُّ وَ تَرْضَى إِلَهِي إِنْ أَخَذْتَنِي بِجُرْمِي أَخَذْتُكَ بِعَفْوِكَ وَ إِنْ أَخَذْتَنِي بِذُنُوبِي أَخَذْتُكَ بِمَغْفِرَتِكَ. وَ إِنْ أَدْخَلْتَنِي النَّارَ أَعْلَمْتُ أَهْلَهَا أَنِّي أُحِبُّكَ إِلَهِي إِنْ كَانَ صَغُرَ فِي جَنْبِ طَاعَتِكَ عَمَلِي فَقَدْ كَبُرَ فِي جَنْبِ رَجَائِكَ أَمَلِي إِلَهِي كَيْفَ أَنْقَلِبُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ بِالْخَيْبَةِ مَحْرُوما وَ قَدْ كَانَ حُسْنُ ظَنِّي بِجُودِكَ أَنْ تَقْلِبَنِي بِالنَّجَاةِ مَرْحُوما إِلَهِي وَ قَدْ أَفْنَيْتُ عُمُرِي فِي شِرَّةِ السَّهْوِ عَنْكَ وَ أَبْلَيْتُ شَبَابِي فِي سَكْرَةِ التَّبَاعُدِ مِنْكَ إِلَهِي فَلَمْ أَسْتَيْقِظْ أَيَّامَ اغْتِرَارِي بِكَ وَ رُكُونِي إِلَى سَبِيلِ سَخَطِكَ إِلَهِي وَ أَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَ ابْنُ عَبْدِكَ قَائِمٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ مُتَوَسِّلٌ بِكَرَمِكَ إِلَيْكَ إِلَهِي أَنَا عَبْدٌ أَتَنَصَّلُ إِلَيْكَ مِمَّا كُنْتُ أُوَاجِهُكَ بِهِ مِنْ قِلَّةِ اسْتِحْيَائِي مِنْ نَظَرِكَ وَ أَطْلُبُ الْعَفْوَ مِنْكَ إِذِ الْعَفْوُ نَعْتٌ لِكَرَمِكَ إِلَهِي لَمْ يَكُنْ لِي حَوْلٌ فَأَنْتَقِلَ بِهِ عَنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ إِلا فِي وَقْت أَيْقَظْتَنِي لِمَحَبَّتِكَ وَ كَمَا أَرَدْتَ أَنْ أَكُونَ كُنْتُ فَشَكَرْتُكَ بِإِدْخَالِي فِي كَرَمِكَ وَ لِتَطْهِيرِ قَلْبِي مِنْ أَوْسَاخِ الْغَفْلَةِ عَنْكَ إِلَهِي انْظُرْ إِلَيَّ نَظَرَ مَنْ نَادَيْتَهُ فَأَجَابَكَ وَ اسْتَعْمَلْتَهُ بِمَعُونَتِكَ فَأَطَاعَكَ يَا قَرِيبا لا يَبْعُدُ عَنِ الْمُغْتَرِّ بِهِ وَ يَا جَوَادا لا يَبْخَلُ عَمَّنْ رَجَا ثَوَابَهُ إِلَهِي هَبْ لِي قَلْبا يُدْنِيهِ مِنْكَ شَوْقُهُ وَ لِسَانا يُرْفَعُ إِلَيْكَ صِدْقُهُ وَ نَظَرا يُقَرِّبُهُ مِنْكَ حَقُّهُ إِلَهِي إِنَّ مَنْ تَعَرَّفَ بِكَ غَيْرُ مَجْهُول وَ مَنْ لاذَ بِكَ غَيْرُ مَخْذُول وَ مَنْ أَقْبَلْتَ عَلَيْهِ غَيْرُ مَمْلُوك [مَمْلُول] إِلَهِي إِنَّ مَنِ انْتَهَجَ بِكَ لَمُسْتَنِيرٌ وَ إِنَّ مَنِ اعْتَصَمَ بِكَ لَمُسْتَجِيرٌ وَ قَدْ لُذْتُ بِكَ يَا إِلَهِي فَلا تُخَيِّبْ ظَنِّي مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ وَ لا تَحْجُبْنِي عَنْ رَأْفَتِكَ إِلَهِي أَقِمْنِي فِي أَهْلِ وَلايَتِكَ مُقَامَ مَنْ رَجَا الزِّيَادَةَ مِنْ مَحَبَّتِكَ إِلَهِي وَ أَلْهِمْنِي وَلَها بِذِكْرِكَ إِلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَ هِمَّتِي فِي رَوْحِ نَجَاحِ أَسْمَائِكَ وَ مَحَلِّ قُدْسِكَ إِلَهِي بِكَ عَلَيْكَ إِلا أَلْحَقْتَنِي بِمَحَلِّ أَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ وَ الْمَثْوَى الصَّالِحِ مِنْ مَرْضَاتِكَ فَإِنِّي لا أَقْدِرُ لِنَفْسِي دَفْعا وَ لا أَمْلِكُ لَهَا نَفْعا إِلَهِي أَنَا عَبْدُكَ الضَّعِيفُ الْمُذْنِبُ وَ مَمْلُوكُكَ الْمُنِيبُ [الْمَعِيبُ] فَلا تَجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ صَرَفْتَ عَنْهُ وَجْهَكَ وَ حَجَبَهُ سَهْوُهُ عَنْ عَفْوِكَ إِلَهِي هَبْ لِي كَمَالَ الانْقِطَاعِ إِلَيْكَ وَ أَنِرْ أَبْصَارَ قُلُوبِنَا. بِضِيَاءِ نَظَرِهَا إِلَيْكَ حَتَّى تَخْرِقَ أَبْصَارُ الْقُلُوبِ حُجُبَ النُّورِ فَتَصِلَ إِلَى مَعْدِنِ الْعَظَمَةِ وَ تَصِيرَ أَرْوَاحُنَا مُعَلَّقَةً بِعِزِّ قُدْسِكَ إِلَهِي وَ اجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ نَادَيْتَهُ فَأَجَابَكَ وَ لاحَظْتَهُ فَصَعِقَ لِجَلالِكَ فَنَاجَيْتَهُ سِرّا وَ عَمِلَ لَكَ جَهْرا إِلَهِي لَمْ أُسَلِّطْ عَلَى حُسْنِ ظَنِّي قُنُوطَ الْإِيَاسِ وَ لا انْقَطَعَ رَجَائِي مِنْ جَمِيلِ كَرَمِكَ إِلَهِي إِنْ كَانَتِ الْخَطَايَا قَدْ أَسْقَطَتْنِي لَدَيْكَ فَاصْفَحْ عَنِّي بِحُسْنِ تَوَكُّلِي عَلَيْكَ إِلَهِي إِنْ حَطَّتْنِي الذُّنُوبُ مِنْ مَكَارِمِ لُطْفِكَ فَقَدْ نَبَّهَنِي الْيَقِينُ إِلَى كَرَمِ عَطْفِكَ إِلَهِي إِنْ أَنَامَتْنِي الْغَفْلَةُ عَنِ الاسْتِعْدَادِ لِلِقَائِكَ فَقَدْ نَبَّهَتْنِي الْمَعْرِفَةُ بِكَرَمِ آلائِكَ إِلَهِي إِنْ دَعَانِي إِلَى النَّارِ عَظِيمُ عِقَابِكَ فَقَدْ دَعَانِي إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ جَزِيلُ ثَوَابِكَ إِلَهِي فَلَكَ أَسْأَلُ وَ إِلَيْكَ أَبْتَهِلُ وَ أَرْغَبُ وَ أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ آلِ مُحَمَّد وَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَنِي مِمَّنْ يُدِيمُ ذِكْرَكَ وَ لا يَنْقُضُ عَهْدَكَ وَ لا يَغْفُلُ عَنْ شُكْرِكَ وَ لا يَسْتَخِفُّ بِأَمْرِكَ إِلَهِي وَ أَلْحِقْنِي بِنُورِ عِزِّكَ الْأَبْهَجِ فَأَكُونَ لَكَ عَارِفا وَ عَنْ سِوَاكَ مُنْحَرِفا وَ مِنْكَ خَائِفا مُرَاقِبا يَا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّد رَسُولِهِ وَ آلِهِ الطَّاهِرِينَ وَ سَلَّمَ تَسْلِيما كَثِيرا.

The above dua can be recited at any time in the month of RAMadhan. It should be recited with the presence of heart and with the intention of seeking nearness to God and getting His rewards.

It is highly desirable to observe fast on 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd Shaa’baan, and pray every night a 2 Rak—a’t Namaaz.

In every Rak—a’t, after the recitation of Soorah Al Faatih’ah, recite Soorah Al Ikhlaas 13 times.

The third day of Sha’aban is a day of blessing because Imam Husain bin Ali was born in this day in the fourth year of Hijra. According  to Imam Hasan bin Ali al-Askari (a.s.) it is highly desirable to observe fast today and recite the following dua:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِحَقِّ الْمَوْلُودِ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ بِشَهَادَتِهِ قَبْلَ اسْتِهْلالِهِ وَ وِلادَتِهِ بَكَتْهُ السَّمَاءُ وَ مَنْ فِيهَا وَ الْأَرْضُ وَ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا وَ لَمَّا يَطَأْ [يُطَأْ] لابَتَيْهَا قَتِيلِ الْعَبْرَةِ وَ سَيِّدِ الْأُسْرَةِ الْمَمْدُودِ بِالنُّصْرَةِ يَوْمَ الْكَرَّةِ الْمُعَوَّضِ مِنْ قَتْلِهِ أَنَّ الْأَئِمَّةَ مِنْ نَسْلِهِ وَ الشِّفَاءَ فِي تُرْبَتِهِ وَ الْفَوْزَ مَعَهُ فِي أَوْبَتِهِ وَ الْأَوْصِيَاءَ مِنْ عِتْرَتِهِ بَعْدَ قَائِمِهِمْ وَ غَيْبَتِهِ حَتَّى يُدْرِكُوا الْأَوْتَارَ وَ يَثْأَرُوا الثَّارَ وَ يُرْضُوا الْجَبَّارَ وَ يَكُونُوا خَيْرَ أَنْصَار صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ مَعَ اخْتِلافِ اللَّيْلِ وَ النَّهَارِ اللَّهُمَّ فَبِحَقِّهِمْ إِلَيْكَ أَتَوَسَّلُ وَ أَسْأَلُ سُؤَالَ مُقْتَرِف مُعْتَرِف مُسِيء إِلَى نَفْسِهِ مِمَّا فَرَّطَ فِي يَوْمِهِ وَ أَمْسِهِ يَسْأَلُكَ الْعِصْمَةَ إِلَى مَحَلِّ رَمْسِهِ اللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ عِتْرَتِهِ وَ احْشُرْنَا فِي زُمْرَتِهِ وَ بَوِّئْنَا مَعَهُ دَارَ الْكَرَامَةِ وَ مَحَلَّ الْإِقَامَةِ اللَّهُمَّ وَ كَمَا أَكْرَمْتَنَا بِمَعْرِفَتِهِ فَأَكْرِمْنَا بِزُلْفَتِهِ وَ ارْزُقْنَا مُرَافَقَتَهُ وَ سَابِقَتَهُ وَ اجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يُسَلِّمُ لِأَمْرِهِ وَ يُكْثِرُ الصَّلاةَ عَلَيْهِ عِنْدَ ذِكْرِهِ وَ عَلَى جَمِيعِ أَوْصِيَائِهِ وَ أَهْلِ أَصْفِيَائِهِ الْمَمْدُودِينَ مِنْكَ بِالْعَدَدِ الاثْنَيْ عَشَرَ النُّجُومِ الزُّهَرِ وَ الْحُجَجِ عَلَى جَمِيعِ الْبَشَرِ اللَّهُمَّ وَ هَبْ لَنَا فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ خَيْرَ مَوْهِبَة وَ أَنْجِحْ لَنَا فِيهِ كُلَّ طَلِبَة كَمَا وَهَبْتَ الْحُسَيْنَ لِمُحَمَّد جَدِّهِ وَ عَاذَ فُطْرُسُ بِمَهْدِهِ فَنَحْنُ عَائِذُونَ بِقَبْرِهِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ نَشْهَدُ تُرْبَتَهُ وَ نَنْتَظِرُ أَوْبَتَهُ آمِينَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ.

* The friends and followers of the “Ahlulbayt” gather to celebrate the birth of Imam Husain (a.s.) in the name of the “Jashn” and sing praises of Allah, the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and his Holy Ahlulbayt.

Celebration and commemoration are the two sides of one coin. We use this coin to seek nearness to Allah, His last Holy Prophet (pbuh) and his Holy Ahlulbayt.

It is highly desirable to keep fast today.

We can give expression to our joy and happiness in whatever  manner available or suitable to  us keeping in view the life style of our beloved “14 Infallibles”, and the tenets of Islam, but at all events obligatory rules of conduct (Namaz and other essentials) have to be carried out; and in addition special prayers and duas (supplications)  must be prayed in the name of the Holy Imam we call to our  memory today.

13^th, 14^th and 15^th of Rajab, Sha'abaan and RAMzan are know as “Ayyam Bayz” (the days of surpassing splendour)

                  [Imam Jaa’-far bin Muhammad As Saadiq (A.S.) had said:

Whoso prays during the nights of “Ayyam Bayz”, in fact, stands at the door of superabundant favours, bounties and benefits available in these months].

 It is highly desirable to observe fast on 13, 14 and 15, have a bath each day, and give alms in the way of Allah.

 The fifteenth of Sha’aban

The Holy Prophet (pbuh) had said that during the night of 15^th Shaa’baan the Almighty takes decisions in the matters of sustenance, life and death and welfare of the people.

Next to the “Night of Qadr” the night of 15^th Sha’abaan is the  most auspicious night. According  to the Holy Imam Muhammad bin Ali al-Baqir (a.s.) and Jafar bin Muhammad al-Sadiq (a.s.) the Almighty Allah has promised to fulfill every legitimate desire put forward to Him tonight.

SPECIAL PRAYERS AND A’AMAAL

(1)   Take bath and put on clean clothes.

(2)   Keep vigil the night long in prayers till dawn.

(3)   Recite Ziyaarat of Imam Husain (a.s.).

(4)   Recite Dua-e Kumayl.

(5)   Recite: Subhanallah, 100 times Alhamdulillah 100 times, Allahu Akbari 100 times Laa Ilaha Ellallah 100 times.

(6)   Recite the following Dua which has been recommended by Imam Hasan Askari to welcome the birth of our living Imam who was born on fifteenth of Shaa’baan:

اللَّهُمَّ بِحَقِّ لَيْلَتِنَا [هَذِهِ] وَ مَوْلُودِهَا وَ حُجَّتِكَ وَ مَوْعُودِهَا الَّتِي قَرَنْتَ إِلَى فَضْلِهَا فَضْلا فَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَتُكَ صِدْقا وَ عَدْلا لا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِكَ وَ لا مُعَقِّبَ لآِيَاتِكَ نُورُكَ الْمُتَأَلِّقُ وَ ضِيَاؤُكَ الْمُشْرِقُ وَ الْعَلَمُ النُّورُ فِي طَخْيَاءِ الدَّيْجُورِ الْغَائِبُ الْمَسْتُورُ جَلَّ مَوْلِدُهُ وَ كَرُمَ مَحْتِدُهُ وَ الْمَلائِكَةُ شُهَّدُهُ وَ اللَّهُ نَاصِرُهُ وَ مُؤَيِّدُهُ إِذَا آنَ مِيعَادُهُ وَ الْمَلائِكَةُ [فَالْمَلائِكَةُ] أَمْدَادُهُ سَيْفُ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لا يَنْبُو وَ نُورُهُ الَّذِي لا يَخْبُو وَ ذُو الْحِلْمِ الَّذِي لا يَصْبُو مَدَارُ الدَّهْرِ وَ نَوَامِيسُ الْعَصْرِ وَ وُلاةُ الْأَمْرِ وَ الْمُنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا يَتَنَزَّلُ [يَنْزِلُ] فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ وَ أَصْحَابُ الْحَشْرِ وَ النَّشْرِ تَرَاجِمَةُ وَحْيِهِ وَ وُلاةُ أَمْرِهِ وَ نَهْيِهِ اللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَى خَاتِمِهِمْ وَ قَائِمِهِمْ الْمَسْتُورِ عَنْ عَوَالِمِهِمْ اللَّهُمَّ وَ أَدْرِكْ بِنَا أَيَّامَهُ وَ ظُهُورَهُ وَ قِيَامَهُ وَ اجْعَلْنَا مِنْ أَنْصَارِهِ وَ اقْرِنْ ثَارَنَا بِثَارِهِ وَ اكْتُبْنَا فِي أَعْوَانِهِ وَ خُلَصَائِهِ وَ أَحْيِنَا فِي دَوْلَتِهِ نَاعِمِينَ وَ بِصُحْبَتِهِ غَانِمِينَ وَ بِحَقِّهِ قَائِمِينَ وَ مِنَ السُّوءِ سَالِمِينَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ وَ صَلَوَاتُهُ عَلَى [وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى] سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّد خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّينَ وَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الصَّادِقِينَ وَ عِتْرَتِهِ النَّاطِقِينَ وَ الْعَنْ جَمِيعَ الظَّالِمِينَ وَ احْكُمْ بَيْنَنَا وَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَا أَحْكَمَ الْحَاكِمِينَ.

Translations: O my Allah I beseech Thee in the name of he who was born today, to whom (Thou) promised martyrdom before he gave light (to the world) like a new moon on his birth; the heavens and the earth and those dwelling therein fell into the silence of remorse when he set foot in this world, 

the harassed grief-stricken head ofs as closely connected strong group of familiar friends of people who will win victory on the day the final attack (on the usurpers and tyrants) will be launched—an equivalent recompense for his martyrdom; his direct descendants are the Holy Imams (Guide—Leaders); the soil of his resting abode provides effective help, a sure remedy; he shall attain his end alongwith his successors from among his descendants, when their “Qaa—im” (Living Imam) shall come back and take hold of the persecutors and cheaters, put an end to vengeful stupid wars, and thus fulfill the task the Omnipotent has entrusted to them, and be the best helpers; blessings of Allah be on them at all times, times than go by and times that set in  

O my Allah, therefore, in their names, unto Thee, I turn to get a hearing and make a request—it is the request of an accused, aware of the wrong done by him to his ownself, in negligence, day in and out—to seek Thy protection until covered with earth in the grave. 

O my Allah send blessings on Muhammad and on his children and raise us (on the day of resurrection in the group of his associates, give us an abode near him in the eternal land of bliss and happiness. 

O my Allah just as Thou obliged us with the awareness of his true substance please also promote our close friendship with him, sustain us so far, dedicated, we are useful to his mission, trying to overtake one another, keep us among those who willingly follow his instructions and guidance.

And every time, whenever we mention his name, invoke Thee to send blessings on him and on all his successors, his chosen family, the Twelve Bright identified by Thee, Thy decisive arguments over all mankinds.

O my Allah equip us today with the best maturity and education to carry on successfully the demands of Thy mission just as Husayn had been put in readiness by his grandfather, Muhammad (S.A.); and just as Futrus (an Angel) found tranquility in his (Husayn’s) cradle, let us get peace of mind at his “resting abode” where we go to pronounce the profession of true faith and await his return. Be it so, O Lord of the worlds.

Shaikh Toosi and Shaikh Kaf`ami said that recite the following during this night:

إِلَهِي تَعَرَّضَ لَكَ فِي هَذَا اللَّيْلِ الْمُتَعَرِّضُونَ وَ قَصَدَكَ الْقَاصِدُونَ وَ أَمَّلَ فَضْلَكَ وَ مَعْرُوفَكَ الطَّالِبُونَ وَ لَكَ فِي هَذَا اللَّيْلِ نَفَحَاتٌ وَ جَوَائِزُ وَ عَطَايَا وَ مَوَاهِبُ تَمُنُّ بِهَا عَلَى مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ وَ تَمْنَعُهَا مَنْ لَمْ تَسْبِقْ لَهُ الْعِنَايَةُ مِنْكَ وَ هَا أَنَا ذَا عُبَيْدُكَ الْفَقِيرُ إِلَيْكَ الْمُؤَمِّلُ فَضْلَكَ وَ مَعْرُوفَكَ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ يَا مَوْلايَ تَفَضَّلْتَ فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ عَلَى أَحَد مِنْ خَلْقِكَ وَ عُدْتَ عَلَيْهِ بِعَائِدَة مِنْ عَطْفِكَ فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ آلِ مُحَمَّد الطَّيِّبِينَ الطَّاهِرِينَ الْخَيِّرِينَ الْفَاضِلِينَ وَ جُدْ عَلَيَّ بِطَوْلِكَ وَ مَعْرُوفِكَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّد خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّينَ وَ آلِهِ الطَّاهِرِينَ وَ سَلَّمَ تَسْلِيما إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَدْعُوكَ كَمَا أَمَرْتَ فَاسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَ إِنَّكَ لا تُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ .

Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir (a.s.) and Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (a.s.) used to pray a 4 Raka’at namaz tonight as under:

In every Raka’at recite Sura-e Al-Fateha 100 times and Sura-e Al-Ikhlas 100 times. After the salam recite the following  dua:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي إِلَيْكَ فَقِيرٌ وَ مِنْ عَذَابِكَ خَائِفٌ مُسْتَجِيرٌ اللَّهُمَّ لا تُبَدِّلْ اسْمِي وَ لا تُغَيِّرْ جِسْمِي وَ لا تَجْهَدْ بَلائِي وَ لا تُشْمِتْ بِي أَعْدَائِي أَعُوذُ بِعَفْوِكَ مِنْ عِقَابِكَ وَ أَعُوذُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِكَ وَ أَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ وَ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ جَلَّ ثَنَاؤُكَ أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ وَ فَوْقَ مَا يَقُولُ الْقَائِلُونَ.

(“O my Allah! I am before Thee, a needy, afraid of Thy displeasure, but hopeful of receiving Thy protection.  O my Allah do not substitute my name (from the list of the faithfuls), nor let my body (material aspects) undergo a change, nor put me to severe test and trial, nor subject me to the enemy’s ridicule.  I take refuge  with Thy forgiveness to avoid Thy retribution. I take  refuge with Thy mercy to avoid Thy punishment. I take refuge with Thy indulgence to avoid Thy displeasure. I take refuge with Thee from Thee. Glorious and sublime is Thy praise as Thou praises Thyself, but above and beyond that which the best orators say.”)

It is reported that Imam Jafar-e-Sadiq (A.S.) used to recite the following Dua on the last day of Sha`aban and first day of RAMadhan.  This Dua bears great merits:-

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ هَذَا الشَّهْرَ الْمُبَارَكَ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ وَ جُعِلَ هُدًى لِلنَّاسِ وَ بَيِّنَات مِنَ الْهُدَى وَ الْفُرْقَانِ قَدْ حَضَرَ فَسَلِّمْنَا فِيهِ وَ سَلِّمْهُ لَنَا وَ تَسَلَّمْهُ مِنَّا فِي يُسْر مِنْكَ وَ عَافِيَة يَا مَنْ أَخَذَ الْقَلِيلَ وَ شَكَرَ الْكَثِيرَ اقْبَلْ مِنِّي الْيَسِيرَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِي إِلَى كُلِّ خَيْر سَبِيلا وَ مِنْ كُلِّ مَا لا تُحِبُّ مَانِعا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ يَا مَنْ عَفَا عَنِّي وَ عَمَّا خَلَوْتُ بِهِ مِنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ يَا مَنْ لَمْ يُؤَاخِذْنِي بِارْتِكَابِ الْمَعَاصِي عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ يَا كَرِيمُ إِلَهِي وَعَظْتَنِي فَلَمْ أَتَّعِظْ وَ زَجَرْتَنِي عَنْ مَحَارِمِكَ فَلَمْ أَنْزَجِرْ فَمَا عُذْرِي فَاعْفُ عَنِّي يَا كَرِيمُ عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الرَّاحَةَ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ وَ الْعَفْوَ عِنْدَ الْحِسَابِ عَظُمَ الذَّنْبُ مِنْ عَبْدِكَ فَلْيَحْسُنِ التَّجَاوُزُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ يَا أَهْلَ التَّقْوَى وَ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَغْفِرَةِ عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ ابْنُ عَبْدِكَ وَ ابْنُ أَمَتِكَ ضَعِيفٌ فَقِيرٌ إِلَى رَحْمَتِكَ وَ أَنْتَ مُنْزِلُ الْغِنَى وَ الْبَرَكَةِ عَلَى الْعِبَادِ قَاهِرٌ مُقْتَدِرٌ أَحْصَيْتَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ وَ قَسَمْتَ أَرْزَاقَهُمْ وَ جَعَلْتَهُمْ مُخْتَلِفَةً أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ وَ أَلْوَانُهُمْ خَلْقا مِنْ بَعْدِ خَلْق وَ لا يَعْلَمُ الْعِبَادُ عِلْمَكَ وَ لا يَقْدِرُ الْعِبَادُ قَدْرَكَ وَ كُلُّنَا فَقِيرٌ إِلَى رَحْمَتِكَ فَلا تَصْرِفْ عَنِّي وَجْهَكَ وَ اجْعَلْنِي مِنْ صَالِحِي خَلْقِكَ فِي الْعَمَلِ وَ الْأَمَلِ وَ الْقَضَاءِ وَ الْقَدَرِ اللَّهُمَّ أَبْقِنِي خَيْرَ الْبَقَاءِ وَ أَفْنِنِي خَيْرَ الْفَنَاءِ عَلَى مُوَالاةِ أَوْلِيَائِكَ وَ مُعَادَاةِ أَعْدَائِكَ وَ الرَّغْبَةِ إِلَيْكَ وَ الرَّهْبَةِ مِنْكَ وَ الْخُشُوعِ وَ الْوَفَاءِ وَ التَّسْلِيمِ لَكَ وَ التَّصْدِيقِ بِكِتَابِكَ وَ اتِّبَاعِ سُنَّةِ رَسُولِكَ اللَّهُمَّ مَا كَانَ فِي قَلْبِي مِنْ شَكّ أَوْ رِيبَة أَوْ جُحُود أَوْ قُنُوط أَوْ فَرَح أَوْ بَذَخ أَوْ بَطَر أَوْ خُيَلاءَ أَوْ رِيَاء أَوْ سُمْعَة أَوْ شِقَاق أَوْ نِفَاق أَوْ كُفْر أَوْ فُسُوق أَوْ عِصْيَان أَوْ عَظَمَة أَوْ شَيْء لا تُحِبُّ فَأَسْأَلُكَ يَا رَبِّ أَنْ تُبَدِّلَنِي مَكَانَهُ إِيمَانا بِوَعْدِكَ وَ وَفَاءً بِعَهْدِكَ وَ رِضًا بِقَضَائِكَ وَ زُهْدا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ رَغْبَةً فِيمَا عِنْدَكَ وَ أَثَرَةً وَ طُمَأْنِينَةً وَ تَوْبَةً نَصُوحا أَسْأَلُكَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ إِلَهِي أَنْتَ مِنْ حِلْمِكَ تُعْصَى وَ مِنْ كَرَمِكَ وَ جُودِكَ تُطَاعُ فَكَأَنَّكَ لَمْ تُعْصَ [تَرَ] وَ أَنَا وَ مَنْ لَمْ يَعْصِكَ سُكَّانُ أَرْضِكَ فَكُنْ عَلَيْنَا بِالْفَضْلِ جَوَادا وَ بِالْخَيْرِ عَوَّادا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَ آلِهِ صَلاةً دَائِمَةً لا تُحْصَى وَ لا تُعَدُّ وَ لا يَقْدِرُ قَدْرَهَا غَيْرُكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.

O` Allah! This is the blessed month in which was revealed Quran a guidance for men-kind and clear evidence of guidance and discrimination (of the right from the wrong) is being witnessed by us.  You therefore keep us healthy in it and keep us sound in our faith in it and accept it from us in a state of prosperity and health granted to us by You.

O` Allah! I ask You to provide me with a way towards all good and keep me away from all that You likes not- O` the Most Merciful!

O` Who forgave me and forgave me all my misdeeds committed secretly.

O` Who punished me not for my disobedience! Your forgiveness.  Your forgiveness! Your forgiveness!

O` the Generous! O` my Allah! You did admonish me but I responded not, You did chide but I cared not for it, what excuse have I now?

Pardon me O` the Generous! Your pardon! Your Pardon!

O` Allah! I beseech you for ease at the time of my death and forgiveness at the time of reckoning (on the day of resurrection).  Sins of Your slave are great (in number) but forgiveness from You should serve my purpose well.  O` the One deserving to be feared and fitted to pardon.  Your pardon! Your Pardon!

O` Allah! I am Your bondman son of Your bondman and son of Your slave girl, I am weak and stand in need of Your Mercy.  You are Omnipotent and Mighty.  You have reckoned their deeds and accordingly distributed to them their livelihood and made them creation after creation of different languages and colours.

The People know not what You know and esteem You not with the estimation due to You and all of us stand in need of Your mercy- “Turn not You Your face away from us and ordain in Your decree to make me among Your creature virtuous in deeds and hopes.

O` Allah! Keep me alive to live the life of righteousness and cause me to die the best death in a state of love (in my heart) towards Your friends and in a state of enmity towards Your enemies and with a desire to meet you and fearing You and with humility and fulfilling the promise and submitting to Your will, testifying Your Book and following the life-pattern of Your Messenger.

O` Allah! Remove from my heart any doubt, disbelief, disappointment, in intoxication, conceit insolence, vanity, show, desire from fame, disagreement, hypocrisy, infidelism, transgression, disobedience, pride or any thing that You love not.

I therefore ask You to grant me faith (Eeman) according to Your promise and inspire me to fulfil Your promise and pleasure to willingly accept Your decree and piety (ascetism) in the world and a desire of that which is with you (good) impression, mental tranquility and sincere-penitence.  I ask You O` Lord! of  the Worlds.

 O` my Allah! disobedience to You is due to Your forbearence, and obedience is due to Your generosity and magnanimity as if You were never disobeyed.  I and he who never disobeyed are the dwellers of Your earth.  You therefore with Your grace pardon me and invite us to You with Your goodness.  O` the Most Merciful! And bestow on Mohammad and his progeny Your everlasting and unlimited blessings which neither could be reckoned nor appreciated by any one except You.  O` the Most Merciful!

O` Allah! Send Your Blessings on Mohammad and his progeny, Ameen.
