Method of Namaz of Ayat

1527. Namaz-e Ayat consists of two Rak’ats and there are five Ruku in each. Its method is as follows: After making Niyyat of offering the prayers, one shoud say Takbir (Allahu Akbar) and recite Surah al-Hamd and the other Surah, and then perform the Ruku. Thereafter, he should stand and recite Surah al-Hamd and a Surah and then perform another Ruku. He should repeat this action five times, and, when he stands after the fifth Ruku, he shoud peform two Sajdahs, and then stand up to perform the second Rak’at in the same manner as he has done in the first. Then he should recite Tashahhud and Salam.

1528. Namaz-e Ayat can also be offered in the following manner: After making Niyyat to offer Namaz-e Ayat, a person is allowed to say Takbir and recite Surah al-Hamd and then divide the verses of the other Surah into five parts, and recite one verse or more and thereafter perform the Ruku. He should then stand up and recite another part of the Surah (without reciting Surah al-Hamd) and then perform another Ruku. He should repeat this action, and finish that Surah before performing the fifth Ruku. For exmaple, he may say: Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim with the Niyyat of reciting Surah al-Ikhlas, and perform the Ruku. He should then stand up and say: Qul huwallahu Ahad, and perform another Ruku.
He should then stand up and say: Allahus Samad, and perform the third Ruku. Thereafter, he should stand up again and say: Lam Yalid walam yulad, and perform the fourth Ruku. Then he should stand up again and say: Walam yakullahu kufuwan ahad, and then perform two Sajdahs and then rise for the second Rak’at, the same way as the first Rak’at. At the end, he should recite Tashahhud and Salam after the two Sajdahs.

1529. There is no harm if in one Rak’at of Namaz-e Ayat, a person recites Surah al-Hamd and another Surah five times, and in the second Rak’at recites Surah al-Hamd, and divides the other Surah into five parts.

1530. The things which are obligatory and Mustahab in daily prayers are also obligatory and Mustahab in Namaz-e Ayat. However, if Namaz-e Ayat one may say: As-Salaat, three times in place of Adhan and Iqamah with the hope of Sawab (spiritual reward).

1531. It is Mustahab that after the fifth and tenth Ruku, one says: “Same’allaho leman Hameda.” And also before every Ruku and after that, he says Takbir. But, after fifth and tenth Ruku saying Takbir as an act, which occurs after Ruku is not Mustahab. However, it is Mustahab to say Takbir with the intention of acts done before Sajdah

1532. It is Mustahab to recite Qunut before second and fourth and sixth and eighth and tenth Ruku; and if only one Qunut is recited before tenth Ruku, it is sufficient.

1533. In Namaz-e Ayat, if one doubts about the number of Rak’ats which have been offered and his thinking does not lead to any conclusion, then the Namaz is void.

1534. If one doubts whether he is in the last Ruku of the first Rak’at or the first Ruku of the second Rak’at and his thinking does not lead to any conclusion, his Namaz is void. But, if, for example, one doubts that he has performed four or five Ruku, then if he has not already gone to Sajdeh, then he must performed the Ruku which is in doubt. But if he has already gone to Sajdah, then he may simply disregard his doubt.

1535. Each of the Rukus of Namaz-e Ayat is considered Rukn; which means if they are performed more or less intentionally or by misstake, Namaz is void.
